Our Mission and Goals

Established by Huta Katowice S.A under the notarial deed dated April 13, 1992, the Foundation for Health Protection in Dąbrowa Górnicza has been functioning in accordance with the Foundations Act of April 6, 1984, and the Statute of the Foundation for Health Protection. The Foundation addresses issues which are of great concern in Poland, in particular within our region. These issues are related to decreasing effectiveness of the health care system arising from lack of financial means, collapse of the former social security system, and difficult economic condition of the society. Consequently, all of this contributed to the popularity of the Foundation for Health Protection. Moreover, the Foundation has quickly gained recognition among employees-donators.

„…There are two reasons behind the establishment and functioning of the Foundation for Health Protection. The first reason is people needing help, and the second is people willing to provide such help, sparing no means and efforts. Please bear in mind that successful activity of the Foundation is possible not only due to companies providing funds, but also due to individual donators.”

In accordance with the statutory objectives, the main objective of the Foundation is to provide a broadly understood health care assistance to its donators, including employees of ArcelorMittal Poland SA, ZE ZEN, MP Services Sp. z o.o., Stalprofil SA, EC Nowa, Huta Bankowa SA, Przyjaźń Coke Plant, and employees of subsidiaries; MZZP ArcelorMittal Dąbrowa Górnicza, NSZZ Solidarność, PGNiG and others.

The abovementioned assistance is provided to employees supporting the Foundation and their families (i.e. their spouses and dependent children in school age) as well as old age pensioners and employees on disability pension. The Foundation's role is to provide help in cases of genuine, immediate and urgent need. These mainly include live-saving situations, and help in restoring health balance. Furthermore, the Foundation provides assistance in finding the proper medical treatment - specialist examinations are available which make it possible to make a confident diagnosis, and consequently, to make a quick recovery.

Special health care is provided to those employees who suffered injury at work. The Foundation does its best to ensure that the injured employees receive the best care possible by supporting financially medical centers in which they are treated.

The Foundation receives the biggest financial support from voluntary donations made by individuals. By donating 1 % of their monthly salary or social insurance benefit constituting tax base (expressing consent to deduct the amount directly from the payroll to the Foundation’s account), the donors may in return get:

• Drug reimbursement in the amount of 50% of the costs of their medications provided that the costs exceed PLN 50. Only drugs bought in the pharmacy “z Sercem” are subject to reimbursement. Prior to purchasing the drug, the employee is required each time to file a request to the Foundation for Health Protection. The costs will be reimbursed upon the approval of the request.
• Drugs can be purchased in a pharmacy other than the pharmacy "Z Sercem" (in special cases) - in which case a refund amounts to: 25 % of the drug cost, provided that the amount exceeds PLN 50.
• Reimbursement of the costs of rehabilitation equipment from the list of equipment refunded by the National Health Fund (NFZ), including hearing aids, glucose meters, orthoses etc. in the amount of 50% of the costs, however not more than PLN 500.
• A possibility to see a specialist, undergo examinations and receive treatment in medical centers, including Medical University of Silesia, provincial and city hospitals, institutes of oncology, and Upper-Silesian Centre of Rehabilitation “Repty”.
• Preventive medical examinations covered by programs.

A possibility to receive statutory help depends on the Foundation's means. In 2013, the Foundation received kPLN 960  in total from natural and legal persons. The Foundation provided financial support in purchasing of medicines and rehab equipment for 1170 people. This financial support amounted to more than kPLN 450.

The statutory activities of the Foundation also include support for medical centers from our region. In effect, employees have a better access to specialist examinations, medical consultations, and treatment at these medical centers. Last year, the Foundation purchased medical equipment, and provided financial support in amount of kPLN 405 to 15 medical centers, including Upper-Silesian Centre of Rehabilitation “Repty” in Tarnowskie Góry, Independent Public Clinical Hospital No. 6, Province Hospital of Trauma Surgery in Piekary Śląskie, Prof. L. Giec Upper-Silesian Medical Center in Katowice, Kornel Gibiński Independent Public Central Clinical Hospital in Katowice, Silesian Center for Heart Diseases in Zabrze, Sz. Starkiewicz Specialist Hospital in Dąbrowa Górnicza, J. Paweł II Pediatric Center in Sosnowiec, Independent Public Municipal Hospital in Sosnowiec, Health Center in Świętochłowice, St. Barbara Specialist Province Hospital no. 5 in Sosnowiec, Independent Public Clinical Hospital no. 7, Municipal Hospital in Sosnowiec, and hospices: Cordis Hospice in Mysłowice, St. Thomas Hospice in Sosnowiec, and Oncological Hospice of the Pro Salute Foundation in Będzin.

Our involvement in common projects with the Corporate Responsibility of ArcelorMittal Poland SA, and with other Sponsors, makes it possible for more patients to receive diagnosis and treatment. Consequently, this also helps to partially cover needs of medical centers.
